Q: What are the qualifications to be a WAMS
mediator?
A: Before undergoing extensive mediation training,
prospective WAMS mediators must have at least 10 years of litigation
experience, ideally representing both plaintiffs and defendants.
Mediator applicants must also have unquestioned reputations for
professionalism, integrity and tenacity.
Q: Why does WAMS have a 10-Business Day
Cancellation Policy?
A: Professional mediators reserve time on their
calendars for prospective hearings, thereby precluding other mediation
opportunities. Cancellations that occur within 10 business days do not
provide an opportunity to fill the cancelled date, therefore it is only
fair to partially compensate mediators for the lost income opportunity.
Q: What information should be provided to a
mediator before the mediation session?
A: Provide only what is needed to understand the
nature of the case, since mediators have no time to read volumes of
records or deposition transcripts.
Q: Does WAMS accept cases involving pro se
parties?
A: Only in limited circumstances, since WAMS
recommends the involvement of legal counsel to ensure equal
participation by all parties.
